Investment management at Skyview means a customized portfolio built around your goals, time horizon, risk tolerance, and tax profile. Skyview is a fee-only fiduciary based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. We do not earn commissions or offer proprietary products, and your assets are held in your name at Fidelity or Charles Schwab.

01 / Portfolio

What goes into a customized portfolio?

Your allocation comes from your financial plan: when you need the money, how much volatility you can live with, and how much risk your goals require.

Direct indexing adds complexity, can cost more than a single fund, and is limited by wash-sale rules. Alternatives such as private credit or private real estate are often illiquid, complex, and higher cost, and many are open only to investors who meet income or net worth requirements.

  • Asset allocation across stocks, bonds, and cash
  • Asset location across taxable, tax-deferred, and Roth accounts
  • Rebalancing when allocations drift from their targets
  • Direct indexing and tax-loss harvesting where it fits
  • Alternative investments for some qualified investors
02 / Taxes

What is tax-aware investing?

Tax-aware investing treats taxes as a cost to manage, alongside fees and risk. Our page on tax-aware strategies covers the tools in detail.

Skyview does not prepare tax returns. We coordinate with your CPA, who prepares and files them.

  • Holding each asset where it is taxed most efficiently
  • Timing when gains are realized
  • Harvesting losses to offset gains
  • Funding charitable gifts with appreciated shares
  • NUA rules for employer stock in a 401(k)
03 / Concentration

How do you handle a concentrated stock position?

A large position in one company carries risk that diversification is designed to remove, and selling it can trigger a large tax bill. Each approach trades some tax, cost, or time against that risk.

Our guide to diversifying a concentrated stock position covers each approach, and equity compensation planning coordinates them with vesting schedules, trading windows, and 10b5-1 trading plans.

  • Staged sales over several tax years; the position stays concentrated meanwhile
  • Charitable gifts to a donor-advised fund or charitable remainder trust; irrevocable
  • Direct indexing with tax-loss harvesting; harvested losses can help offset gains from selling the position, within wash-sale rules
  • Exchange funds; multi-year holding period, qualified investors only, ongoing fees
  • Hedging with puts or collars; costs money or caps upside, and insider rules apply
04 / Custody

Frequently asked

Frequently asked questions

Do you pick individual stocks?

Sometimes. Portfolios are built primarily from diversified funds and, where it fits, direct indexing, which holds individual stocks in order to track an index rather than to bet on particular companies. Individual securities may be used selectively when they fit a client's plan. We also help clients manage individual positions they already own, such as employer stock.

How often is my portfolio rebalanced?

We monitor portfolios against their target allocations and rebalance when they drift meaningfully from those targets, rather than on a calendar alone. Before trading, we consider taxes, transaction costs, and upcoming cash needs. Where we can, we use contributions and withdrawals to rebalance, which can reduce the need to sell.

Can you manage my 401(k) or employer plan?

Employer plans are administered by the plan's recordkeeper and limited to the plan's fund menu. We include your 401(k) in your financial plan so its allocation fits with your other accounts. When you leave an employer, we can review your rollover options, including NUA if you hold company stock.

How will I see my accounts?

Two ways. Your custodian, Fidelity or Charles Schwab, gives you direct online access and sends your statements and tax forms. Skyview also provides reporting through Advyzon, which consolidates your accounts into one view of holdings, activity, and allocation. We encourage you to compare our reports with your custodian statements, which are the official record of your accounts.

How are you paid?

Skyview is fee-only. We are paid only by our clients and do not receive commissions, payments from fund companies, or revenue from proprietary products. Our fee schedule, how fees are calculated, and how they are billed are described in our Form ADV Part 2A, available on the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure website. We review fees with you before any engagement begins.
